If you are new to anal sex, there is a lot of pleasure to look forward to.  The anus, or ring-muscle, has thousands of sensitive nerve-endings, so a lot of people get immense sexual pleasure from stimulating it. Here are are some tips to make it easier to navigate in the world of butt-play.

First of all, use lube!

Your anus does not self-lubricate like the vagina does, so it is important to use lubricant. We recommend silicone based lubricants for anal play. Use waterbased lubricant if toys are involved. There are also specific lubricants designed for anal play with relaxing natural properties. Numbing spray is not recommended, as this may result in injuries. Pain is your body’s way of letting you know that something is wrong.

Second, it is very important to be relaxed. Heat from a shower, a warming massage oil or a heated toy can help to bring blood flow to anus and relax the muscles.

It is important to clean thoroughly afterward. Never, ever go from anal to vaginal sex with an unwashed penis or sex-toy. Using a condom can increase comfort, control hygiene, and prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

Anal sex is…anal sex. There might be some poop in the picture, no matter how well you have prepared, washed and flushed yourself with water. Accept this fact beforehand.

Anal training! Be realistic. We suggest training in stages. Start with smaller anal plugs, and gradually work with increasing the size until you feel comfortable with larger sizes.

Anal play can get messy. A way to avoid stains is to prepare your space with washable vinyl sheets.

If it hurts, stop! Use more lube, breath and relax. Your breath can help you to relax your inner sphincter muscle which is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Just as deep breathing and other relaxation techniques can help to slow your heart rate, so too can they help you to relax the inner sphincter ring to make anal play more enjoyable. Try again, or do something else.

If your partner or your idea of being versatile in bed is pushing you to try it, and deep down you don’t feel like it, then don’t do it. There are plenty of other ways to enjoy a healthy, satisfying sex-life.
